What does it mean to you?

- Not so much, it's worse for those who throw shorter than me, says the discus star.

Athletes usually like hotter places than Småland for their winter training, but this spring has not been as usual. Stockholmer Daniel Ståhl's travels have indeed gone south, but only to his second home in Växjö. When SVT Sport visited his training base he also threw a fishing rod.

- It's nice to be able to get out into nature and do something different, says Ståhl about the joy of the relaxing hobby.

Discus is an unglamorous craft, especially in wind, racing shadow and eight degree heat. Then it becomes almost impossible to see 160 kilos of Ståhl make three training throws around his own Swedish record of just over 71 meters.

Want to set a world record this summer

This summer, at least, there seems to be competitions, with or without crowds, and since the Olympics are postponed, there is only the closest ancient world record left to aim for, East German Jürgen Schults 74.08 from 1986.

- I have power for 75 meters in my body, says Daniel Ståhl.

What can you improve?

- There is some separation in the middle and more pressure all the way out into the fingertips.

"Just honking and driving"

Anyone who asks Daniel Ståhl for future plans, after his sports career, gets a question mark back. He lives carefree in the present, in search of Olympic gold, world record and not least fish. After fishing, he was still missing all three.

- It's just to lean on and drive, he says of the attitude.

And if I say Tokyo next year?

- Then I say Japan, says Daniel Ståhl with a laugh.
