The United States wants an exception to the current entry ban for some foreign professional athletes participating in American events, Acting Homeland Security Chad Wolf said on Friday.
"Americans need their sport," said Wolf. "It's time to reopen our economy and get professional athletes back to work." Except for the athletes themselves, the exception would also apply to their partners and key staff members of sports teams.
The exception includes Major League Baseball (MLB), the National Basketball Association (NBA), the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA), the Professional Golfers' Association Tour (PGA), the Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour (LPGA). , the National Hockey League (NHL) and the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP).
Due to the coronavirus, an entry ban has been in place from Europe to the United States since mid-March. American citizens are still allowed to travel to the United States from Europe, after which they have to spend fourteen days in quarantine.
