Ewing did 17 seasons in the NBA between 1985 and 2002, most notably in the New York Knicks where he was a celebrated star for 15 years. He was never allowed to win an NBA title, but on the roster there are two Olympic golds, eleven Allstar matches and the "Newcomer of the Year" award in 1986.

Ewing was part of the US classic "Dream Team" which won gold at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.

Today he is a coach for Georgetown University where he played as a young man himself, but right now the 57-year-old is being cared for in the hospital for covid-19. He announced this himself in social media.

- I want to encourage everyone to stay safe and take care of each other, writes Ewing among other things.

The NBA legend is currently up to date with a small role in the acclaimed documentary "The Last Dance" which, among other things, dealt with the New York Knicks' duster with Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls in the 1990s.
