The Santos Laguna club, which is competing in the Mexican First Division, has announced that eight of its players have been infected with the new Corona virus, which constitutes a strong setback for a possible resumption of the pending competition more than two months ago due to the pandemic.

"The results of the medical tests conducted by Santos this week came as follows: the diagnosis of eight players infected with the virus (Covid-19), and all of them do not have any symptoms," a league statement said.

The club or the association did not reveal the players' identities, and the latter only indicated that they are "all under permanent medical supervision, as stipulated in the protocol laid down by the Minister of State for Health Affairs of the Federal Government."

These tests were conducted in preparation for a possible return to exercises starting next week, as the clubs of Guadalajara and Monterrey also conducted tests for players and coaches, and the latter announced that no positive cases were registered in his ranks.

This comes at a time when consultations on the resumption of the season are expected to reach a decision by the end of the week.

However, Santos President Alejandro Aeraraguri considered that "this (injuries to his players) complicates the return scenario," in statements to the sports channel "Tuden".

Previously, only two incidents were recorded in Mexican football involving the President of the League Enrique Bunia and the President of San Luis Club, Alberto Marrero.

And "Covid-19" caused more than 6000 deaths in the country out of 56,500 declared injuries.
