The 36-year-old, who has played eight national matches for Sweden in total, broke his contract with Helsingborg last winter. Now it is clear that he is returning to Gothenburg, but not to Häcken which he represented in 2016-2017, but to the competitor IFK Gothenburg.

Farnerud has represented six clubs abroad but returned to Sweden in 2016, following a victory in Torino FC. The 36-year-old was allowed to leave Helsingborg after last season, despite having previously announced that he would like to continue at the club.
