Mattia Binotto , head of Ferrari, took advantage of the official statement from the signing of Carlos Sainz to warn that his team has "embarked on a new cycle with the aim of returning to the top of F1." The arrival of the Spaniard, who will be paired with Charles Leclerc , will complete the "youngest in 50 years" roster of pilots at Scuderia .

"It will be a long road, not without difficulties, especially with the current financial and regulatory situation, with a sudden change that will require addressing our challenges in a different way," added Binotto, Ferrari's chief technical officer on the circuits.

The team's poor results in 2019, where it scored 235 points less than Mercedes in the classification, and the numerous clashes on the track between Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc stained the reputation of a team always forced to fight for the title until the last race.

In Binotto's opinion, the arrival of Sainz, 25, will be a new boost for the Maranello brand. "It is the best possible combination to help us achieve our goals," said the Italian. "Carlos has shown that he is a great talent. His technical skills and attributes will make him fit perfectly into our family," he analyzed.

Two wins and 11 podiums

Recall that Leclerc became the youngest in Ferrari history last September to conquer a win. His victory at the Belgian GP at 21 allowed him to beat the record of Jackie Ickx , who had won the 1968 French GP at the age of 23.

The new red duo, riddled with talent, can only boast of a cumulative balance of two wins and 11 podiums in 144 grand prizes. Some quite discreet numbers if they are put next, for example, those of Daniel Ricciardo , with seven victories and 29 podiums in 171 races.
