Sadio Mané's Liverpool leads the Premier League - SIPA

The guidelines published Monday by the British government on deconfinement open the door to a resumption of sports competitions on June 1 in camera, notably confirming the Premier League in its plan to end its season.

Phase 2 of the deconfinement, which will not start before the beginning of June and only if health statistics allow, plans, according to the document, to authorize “cultural and sporting events to take place behind closed doors for broadcasting (TV, radio , internet), while avoiding the risk of large-scale social contacts ”.

The return to matches in the presence of an audience in stadiums "may not be fully possible until much later depending on the decrease in the number of new cases (positive for coronavirus)," said the document.

It is a step in the right direction for the Premier League which is currently working and debating on Project Restart envisaging a return to training next week in order to play the 92 remaining matches to finish the season between the beginning of June and the end July, in camera and in a limited number of stadiums.

A general assembly of the Premier League is also held on Monday on this subject, while resistance to this project is numerous. However, the measures envisaged by the British government as part of a very gradual deconfinement could disrupt plans to resume other disciplines such as cricket and Formula 1 because of restrictions on international travel.

The United Kingdom could thus impose a strict 14-day isolation on anyone arriving by air on its territory, with the exception of a "short list" of countries which would escape it.
