Forward “Washington Capitals” Brendan Lypsik was in the center of the main scandal of the National Hockey League (NHL) in recent weeks. The club put a 25-year-old native of Winnipeg on the rejection draft after he made a number of harsh remarks about women and his partners. The team of Alexander Ovechkin said they would seek termination of the contract with the hockey player.

Lipsik's troubles began when screenshots of the group chat on Instagram with his participation appeared on the network, published by a user with the nickname Angelszeee2020. In a general conversation, which was also accessed by Florida Panthers player Jack Rodewald and Laipsic's younger brother Jeremy, representing the University of Manitoba, the hockey player left several inappropriate remarks about the appearance of women. In particular, he called the wife of his former Los Angeles Kings partner Tanner Pearson “fat.” In addition, Lypsik left sexual comments about other unnamed girls, also accompanying them with insults.

The player of “Washington” was caught on unflattering remarks about his teammates. Under the photo with the image of Garnet Hathaway and Nick Daoud's partners in the link, he wrote “here they are losers. The attention of users of social networks was also attracted by the remark regarding another former partner Jake Virtanen from Vancouver Canucks. According to Lepypsik, they "can safely be called the worst team in history."

After the user Angelszeee2020 posted all the correspondence with the participation of Lypsik, he deleted his account, but screenshots with the comments of the Capitals striker scattered across the Internet. The club immediately responded to the scandal with its player, promising to conduct an investigation.

“We are aware of the unacceptable and insulting comments that Brendan Lypsik left in a private conversation on the social network. We will resolve this issue internally, ”the Capitals press service told The Washington Post.

Soon, Lipsik also had to delete his Instagram profile, and on Twitter, the player apologized for his behavior and said that he was the victim of a hacker attack.

“Yesterday my friend’s Instagram account was hacked, and someone posted snapshots of personal conversations in which I participated. I acknowledge that these comments were inappropriate and offensive, and I sincerely apologize to everyone for their actions. I intend to learn a lesson from this and become better by taking a break in order to ponder how to behave more responsibly and meaningfully in the future. I'm really sorry, ”wrote Lipsik.

The incident did not disregard the NHL. The league promised to deal with the incident and made it clear that it considers the actions of Laipsik and Rodewald unacceptable.

“The National Hockey League strongly condemns the misogynistic and reprehensible comments made by Brendan Laipsik and Jack Rodewald on social media, made in a private group chat. In our league there is no place for such statements, attitudes and behavior, regardless of where they found their manifestation. We will solve the issue of this unforgivable behavior together with the participating clubs and players, ”the NHL said.

The first to be punished following the scandal was Jeremy Lyipsik. He was expelled from the University of Manitoba hockey team, where he played for two years. “Florida” has not yet begun to take specific actions regarding Rodewald, who has not yet played a single match for the team, but condemned his participation in the chat.

The protagonist of this whole story will now have to look for a new team and, quite possibly, outside the NHL. During his career, Lipsik has played in six different league clubs and spent 187 matches in the regular season, gaining 59 points. In “Washington”, he spent one season, during which he scored three goals and gave eight passes to partners.

The exclusion of Laipsik from the Capitals may turn out to be good news for the Russian striker Ilya Kovalchuk. They competed with each other for a place in the team, and until the regular championship in the NHL was interrupted due to the coronavirus pandemic, the coaches preferred the 37-year-old Olympic champion. Now Kovalchuk’s chances of signing a new contract with Washington may increase.
