After one of Leipsic's friends' accounts on social media was hacked, a private chat was published in which the NHL player was involved. The 25-year-old expressed, among other things, abusive women and later apologized.

"I apologize and will learn to be a better person after this mistake," he wrote in a statement.

Washington Capitals launched an investigation against Leipsic and announced during the day that he has been placed on waivers, which means other teams can take over his contract.

"Washington has set up Brendan Leipsic on waivers with a view to breaking his contract," the club wrote during the day.
