  • The Girondins de Bordeaux could resume training on June 22.
  • The club has already established a recovery protocol which will go through a Covid-19 test on the basis of volunteering and strict measures in the locker room such as wearing a mask.
  • For the moment, the economic visibility for the summer transfer window remains very limited.

Ligue 1 will not resume its rights until next August 23. But until then, all of its actors do not intend to sit idly by. While behind the scenes the leaders are trying to keep their club financially afloat, the players and coaches will finally be able to find a little freedom with the deconfinement. And that even if the practice of football is still prohibited for an indefinite period today. Some training centers are preparing to reopen on May 11.

But not sure to meet many people. In offices with the maintenance of telework as in locker rooms. There is indeed no urgency to resume the way of the grounds with the stop of the championship and especially the clubs work at this moment on the health protocol of resumption to be able to apply it as rigorously as possible. "A protocol that changes a lot and sometimes, in the space of a few hours, we must review our plans," said a member of the Girondins staff.

Resumed on June 22 with Covid-19 test on a voluntary basis?

If in fact the resumption of individual training may be possible from Monday, the Bordeaux players will not see the Haillan castle before June. The club has abandoned, these past few days, the primary idea of bringing them back the week of May 18 to do a medical checkup and resume physical activity a few days before going on vacation. The return was finally scheduled for June 22 according to information from 20 Minutes. A date which could change according to the evolution of the pandemic just like the health protocol validated to date by the leaders.

If there is no second wave or further deterioration in the health situation, the players will start coming back, one by one, from June 22 to make a clinical, psychological assessment and to carry out a stress test. The Covid-19 test in all this? It is no longer compulsory for the moment, because the Minister of Labor a few days ago banned generalized screening in companies. And a football club remains a business like any other, today there is no derogation for professional sport.

"The test will therefore be done on a voluntary basis," said a manager at 20 Minutes. It will initially be offered to players, staff members and staff close to the professional team (around fifty people) before perhaps being extended to all employees of the Girondins de Bordeaux if the situation allows. As a reminder, no player has tested positive or reported symptoms related to coronavirus during confinement.

Wearing a mask and remote training in small groups

It will then be time to find physical activity in the field. But beware, it will be necessary to do with strict measures according to the current protocol. The players will be greeted two by two and as soon as they enter the training center, there will be a course to follow. The mask will be mandatory on the premises.

All that could of course move, in particular if certain measures are relaxed on June 2 by the French government. But for now, the protocol provides for training in small groups with only physical work from a distance. Pablo, victim of a cruciate ligament rupture and operated, will not return as planned in May to take stock of the progress of his rehabilitation but it will be done remotely from his native country.

Little visibility on the transfer window for the moment

Behind the scenes, concern remains strong about the economic consequences of the health crisis. Like others, the club preferred not to make a "small" recovery in May so as not to end the partial unemployment which relieves the finances of the club. At the moment T, King Street, the American investment fund owner of the Girondins de Bordeaux, did not inform management of a change in strategy in the very short term as a possible sale of the club. The passage before the DNCG on June 30 will be a key moment.

Gathered on May 4, the General Assembly of @LFPfr adopted a resolution allowing the LFP to contract with its banking establishment a loan guaranteed by the state (PGE).

Despite this complex situation, the sports sector continues to advance, but with little visibility today. As indicated by 20 Minutes  on April 17, the primary objective is to keep the backbone of the team at 80% and to degrease heavily on the rest of the workforce. A first departure should arrive quickly since Nîmes could exercise the option to buy Yassine Benrahou (1.5 million euros) by the end of this week. In addition, discussions around the extension of Nicolas De Préville's contract, one of the pillars of the team, should resume in the coming days according to information.
