Three of the ten positive tests were known before and applied to Cologne. Last week, two players and one physical therapist tested positive for the coronavirus.

None of them had any symptoms and the concern was therefore that additional persons within the Bundesliga club would prove to be infected. But that was not the case, but the rest of the squad, on a second test run, left negative test answers, the football club reports. The trio who are infected remain in quarantine for two weeks.

A further seven positive tests have been registered among the 36 clubs in the Bundesliga and Zweite Bundeliga.

The total of 1,724 tests have been performed on both players and other staff and is an important part of the protocol that must be followed in order for the team to be able to go from training in smaller groups to training in a group and finally being able to play matches. Players must be tested continuously at intervals of a few days and only those who tested negative twice may participate.

Not all clubs have published their results. A Stuttgart player has been quarantined after the test answer was not clearly negative, but not positive either.

In Germany, there is a hope of being able to resume the season on May 16 behind closed doors, if the government gives the green light. A decision is expected on Wednesday. If that happens, the Bundesliga becomes the first top league in Europe to resume.
