Dimitri Payet and the other OM players are summoned to the Commandery for medical tests - G. Julien / AFP

  • OM players will undergo medical tests from Tuesday.
  • OM want to be sure that no player suffers from Covid-19.
  • The doctors of the club also want to assess the general physical condition of the players, confined for almost two months.

The ballet of large displacement will resume in the narrow cross that leads to the Commandery, in the eastern districts of Marseille. OM players will undergo a battery of medical tests from Tuesday. The club doctors want to make sure that none of the professional players have been infected with the coronavirus.

"Resuming sport intensively, even alone, can be dangerous, especially at the heart level, in case of Covid infection," said an internal source. OM therefore wished to organize a screening, in partnership with the IHU of Professor Didier Raoult.

The players will come to the Robert-Louis Dreyfus center in turn and will not meet. For the Covid-19, they will undergo simple virological tests, like all Marseillais who are tested at the IHU or in their town halls in the area.

"We are going to do a whole battery of tests"

But Dimitri Payet, Steve Mandanda, Florian Thauvin and their colleagues will have to submit to other verifications. "We are going to do a whole battery of tests," we told OM. This medical visit will be comparable to that which a player performs during his signature, during a transfer window ... or on the return from a truce.

The OM doctors assume that some players will have gained a few pounds, that others will have lost muscle mass ... They want to make an inventory "since a schedule of deconfinement is looming. "

Players refuse to lower wages

The question of players' vacations has not yet been decided - no more than that of wages. Management continues to negotiate to obtain some concessions from its locker room.

The medical unit intends to take advantage of these tests to also assess the psychological state of the various members of the workforce. The staff of André Villas-Boas stayed in contact with the players during these two months without a match. The Portuguese coach, confined to his native country, plans to return to Marseille in the coming days to prepare for the 2020-21 season.

Vice Champion of France! ⁣⁣ What can I say? Which words to choose? Where to start? ⁣⁣ What an extraordinary feat! ⁣⁣ So many moments of joy, so many explosions of feelings! ⁣⁣ Summing up this season between brilliance and exceptional moments is too easy because it was so for several consecutive games. What has marked and often marks the teams of choice is the ability to reinvent themselves in the face of adversity, whether it is when it hits bottom or when dreams escape us. We were a group! We were a team. We knew we were consistent and had the right word and the right reaction to each other. ⁣⁣ This state of mind is felt on a daily basis in communion with everyone. The other's problem is my problem. It was like that at every stage of this journey.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Thank you all without exception. To my brilliant and unrivaled players who, with a lot of effort and selflessness, gave everything in every game. ⁣⁣ To Frank McCourt and Jacques Henri-Eyraud. And Andoni Zubizarreta and Albert Valentin who brought me to this wonderful city of Marseille and allowed me to know the strength of the Vélodrome and the unique passion of its inhabitants. ⁣⁣ To my staff, travel friends, my kings of skills. ⁣⁣ To the decisive and tolerant medical staff who have achieved unique results this season. ⁣⁣ Administrative and logistics staff attentive to every detail. To Rani who is always everywhere to solve problems. ⁣⁣ To Elodie who has a crazy Portuguese by her side. ⁣⁣ To everyone who participated in this wonderful trip, thank you. ⁣⁣ In this sensation and this desire to burst into joy, we are called to reason which alerts us to the sad moment we are living. We would trade all victories and trophies for each of the lives lost. To the fans who are currently overwhelmed by these same sensations, who want to cry out with joy but where the tear persists in retaining passion, thank you! Thank you from the heart! Your strength and your sense of demand forced us to respond. This victory is also yours. ⁣⁣ I would like to finish by dedicating this second place to the former Marseille president Pape Diouf.

He posted this Sunday a long message on Instagram, to greet the "extraordinary feat" of his players, crowned vice-champions of France at the end of last week. He dedicated this second place to Pape Diouf, carried away by the Covid-19. This drama affected some Marseille players, including Steve Mandanda, who had been recruited by Pape Diouf in 2007.

On the other hand, no OM player has experienced mourning in his close entourage. "We touch wood," sighs an intimate from the locker room.
