Fredrik Larsson died in a traffic accident last Tuesday, 36 years old. The death message has shocked Handball Sweden and the condolences have flowed in.

But the Swedish Handball Association has not yet decided how to honor Larsson, who made 36 A-country matches and played both the European Championships and the World Cup.

- It would have been natural to do it in conjunction with an international match, but now we do not know when it will be, says Robert Wedberg.

No matches

The men's national team has no matches scheduled until the European Championship qualifier in November. Although no one knows if the corona virus is under control then and if the matches really get lost.

Wedberg says the issue of paying tribute to Larsson will be discussed at the next board meeting on May 19.

- I don't want to promise anything in this situation. Everyone has a lot to deal with the shock. There are many who have taken offense, Wedberg says.

Several gold medals

Fredrik Larsson was a big profile in Swedish handball after his gold medal with Hammarby and Sävehof. He also played for Skövde, Ystads IF and Alingsås and was a professional in Germany and Spain.

- He made a big impression - not only as a player but also as a person. He was very popular, says Robert Wedberg.

Fredrik Larsson's parent club HK Country outside Skövde plans to start a fund in his name.

- He was always helpful and then we want to do something for him and his family, says Jan Karlgren, elite manager in Country, to Expressen.

Larsson died when he was hit by a truck during a bicycle ride in Lerum outside Gothenburg. He leaves behind wife and two children.
