After the Sphinx of Giza, the Sphinx of Sainté. The mayor of Saint-Etienne will have a statue of Robert Herbin erected at the entrance to the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium. The iconic coach of the great era of the Greens died Monday at 81 years old.

Gaël Perdriau (LR) takes up an idea launched by supporters via an online petition. Le Chaudron belongs to the metropolis of Saint-Etienne, of which the elected representative is president.

Supporters will be consulted

"This tribute to Robert Herbin is entirely justified given what he has brought to French football, to the city and to his club which owes most of his achievements [nine French champion titles and six cups from France] ”, says Gaël Perdriau. The mayor will choose the statue, the artist who will make it and its exact location with ASSE and his supporters.

The construction of this statue is an “excellent initiative”, comments Bernard Caïazzo, president of the ASSE supervisory board. The leaders of the club had already announced this week that the training center and headquarters of the ASSE would be named after Robert Herbin.

A banner in memory of the "Sphinx", with his portrait, will also be deployed on Wednesday on the facade of the Town Hall and a guest book will be opened on the municipality's website.
