Larsson played 36 A-country matches for Sweden and participated in both the European Championships 2010 and the World Cup at home 2011.

- It's incredibly awful. 36 years only ... it's a tragedy. My thoughts go to his family, "Ola Lindgren, who was the league captain during Larsson's time in the national team, tells Aftonbladet.

Mittnian was also a top player during many seasons in the handball league, where he represented five different clubs in the 2000s: Skövde, Ystads IF, Hammarby, Sävehof and Alingsås. With Hammarby he won three SM golds.

- I remember him as a happy and positive guy who liked his sport. As a player, he was loyal, professional and a true team player, says Lindgren.

Larsson signed his first foreign contract with Kiel, but the contract with the German major club was torn down before it became valid and instead he moved to Spain and Aragón, where he remained for two seasons. He also spent two years in Gummersbach before finishing his career in Alingsås 2014–2016.

Fredrik Larsson was killed in a traffic accident when he was hit during a bicycle ride. The incident is being investigated as gross negligence in traffic and causing death to someone else.

He leaves behind his partner and two daughters.
