Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 are "definitively stopped for the 2019-2020 season", said on Tuesday the president of the French Football Federation, Noël Le Graët, following the government opinion on this subject, which must now take note of the Professional League (LFP). The National 1 (3rd division) and the first female division, organized for their part by the FFF, are also closed in advance, said the leader.

The LFP faced with a fait accompli

"These four competitions are definitively stopped for the 2019-2020 season," said the boss of football in France in an interview posted online by the Breton daily Le Télégramme, in reaction to announcements by Prime Minister Edouard Philippe Tuesday before the deputies.

"The 2019-2020 season of professional sports, especially football, will not be able to resume," said the head of government in the afternoon. The leagues can always consider ending the exercise from August, then tempered the Ministry of Sports.

In a press release, the FFF, which convened its executive committee on Tuesday, approved the final decision by the National and the D1 women, inviting the League (LFP) “to inform it as soon as possible of the sports consequences that she intends to take advantage of the situation to close the L1 and L2 championships ”. A way to cut the grass under the foot of the League, even though the latter could be tempted to propose an end of the season in August, since the Ministry of Sports left the door open for a resumption of competitions at that time- there, on the principle of the closed.

Le Graët wants a fixed classification at the 27th day

"The FFF will be particularly attentive to sports equity and to the economic viability of the directions that will be recommended," it is also indicated. "A decision will also be taken soon with regard to the evolution of health conditions concerning the reprogramming of the finals of the Coupe de France and the Women's Cup of France 2019-2020", also explains the authority.

On fixing the final rankings, Le Graët says he wants to comply with "regulations". "So there should be 2 National climbs in D2, the D2 should have two descents and two climbs and therefore two Ligue 1 descents because I don't see how we could make jump-offs," he told the regional newspaper.

💬 "Those who absolutely want to stop the championship are those who are either in a position to play the European cups, or not to go down"

In his mind, the rankings will be frozen after "the last day" disputed in full. Toulouse and Amiens would then slide into L2 next season, while Lorient and Lens would climb to the upper floor. Nîmes, barrage in L1, would be saved, and Lyon ultimately barrage for the Europa League.
