ASSE evokes a "tribute" paid to a man "who participated in the conquest of 15 of the 17 major titles of the club". Arrived in Forez in the summer of 1957 from the Cavigal of Nice, the former midfielder then international defender had been nine times champion of France, five times as player and four as coach, and six times winner of the French Cup, three in each role.

"An extraordinary coach in the legend of the Greens"

On the bench of the Greens for 14 seasons, from 1972 to 1983 then from 1987 to 1990, "the Sphynx" officiated in particular during the epic of Saint Etienne in the European Cup of champion clubs, in 1975-1976, concluded on a defeat in final against Bayern Munich in Glasgow (1-0).

"This decision illustrates the unique place of an extraordinary coach in the legend of the Greens," says ASSE.
