The Spanish automobile industry is now operating again after the confinement required by COVID-19.

Seat Martorel l, the first Spanish factory by volume returns today for a training day so that workers get used to the new anti-pollution measures.

Today about 3,000 people return, a fifth of the workforce. All have passed a coronavirus PCR test. The firm believes that the transition will last eight weeks, in which it will apply a temporary employment regulation file (ERTE) for a maximum of 11,000 workers in the production area.

In the next five weeks all Seat workers will have passed a PCR test.

Workers have found at the entrance to the factory that a spray arc has been installed to disinfect all vehicles and the buses may not exceed 50% of their capacity.

Employees may come with work clothes to avoid going to the changing rooms, which will have closed showers. The doors will be open so as not to touch the knobs. The flows to go up and down the stairs are separate.

In the canteen screens have been installed to separate the squares and only the takeaway service works. The effective workday will be reduced by about 40 minutes, to 6.40 hours, for example, to clean tools.

One third of each shift will start working to guarantee the safety distance of two meters between each person, which is normally less than half a meter. In addition, Seat has installed 700 points to dispense paper or hydroalcoholic gel.

Volkswagen Navarra

It also returns to activity today with a package of measures to avoid contagion in the style of Seat.

On Friday, management and unions of the plant reached an agreement to sign an ERTE for organizational and production reasons that will be applied from April 27 to July 5. This file replaces the current one that would be due to force majeure conditioned to the non-activity of the factory.

Mercedes-Benz Vitoria

Return to business today to re-manufacture the Mercedes-Benz V-Class and Vito for both passengers and van. In the Alava plant, production will be increased in stages until reaching 100%, depending on demand and the component corridor.

Renault

It maintains its gradual return to activity in Palencia and Valladolid from next Wednesday 29 , where it manufactures the Renault Mégane, Kadjar and Captur, respectively.

Ford Almussafes

It will return to activity on May 4 , after announcing that it would not start its activity today due to possible supply problems and lack of demand.

Iveco

He also communicated last Friday to his workers in Valladolid and Madrid that he delays his return to activity for another week. It will not start on May 4 but on May 11 . The reason that the management argues is the possible lack of supplies in the week of May 4 to 11. The Spanish plants of the manufacturer of industrial vehicles receive parts from Lombardy that will leave the confinement on May 4.

Nissan

Next week Nissan was scheduled to open its doors in the Barcelona Free Zone , but unions have called for an indefinite strike thereafter because they fear that the Japanese multinational will take advantage of the coronavirus crisis to close it. Nissan Europe insists that it will not decide the future of the Barcelona plant until the summer.

The Barcelona factory operates at 20% of its capacity and Mercedes has announced that it will stop marketing the X-Class pickup that is made in the Duty-Free Zone, thus losing the most profitable model.

PSA Group

It is implementing measures for workers to return safely to work and maintaining social distance, but has not yet communicated the official date of the return to production neither in PSA Vigo, nor in PSA Figueruelas nor in PSA Villaverde. The French group is the largest vehicle manufacturer in Spain with a third of total production ahead of the Volkswagen group.
