Ivory Coast football legend Didier Drogba, a former Chelsea striker, suffered a severe shock on Sunday, after losing in his country's Football Association elections.
Drogba, 42, competed for the presidential seat with Suri Diabatti, but did not get any votes for 11 of his opponent's total of 14, after three members abstained.
The shock came, according to the Ivorian "City Sport" network, because Drogba, according to reports during the past few days, was a strong candidate for the presidency of the Ivorian Football Federation, after the withdrawal of Eugene Diomand, who announced his support for the former Chelsea striker.
There was also unprecedented support for Drogba's candidacy for the position by 4 professional clubs in the country, but the results were not as expected.
Drogba's fall comes despite his great history with the Ivory Coast team over the past years, as he led the "Elephants" to qualify for three rounds of the World Cup (2006, 2010 and 2014), and reached the African Nations Cup final on two occasions (2006 and 2012).
