Piteå Summer Games is an annual youth tournament in football held annually in Norrbotten with about 600-700 registered teams every year.

But this summer there will be no football party in Norrbotten. Corona pandemic stops the 31st edition.

Piteå-Tidningen now reports that the tournament is threatened by bankruptcy.

- We have never been threatened with bankruptcy. However, it is a tough financial situation. We must build up liquidity until next year's legal filings come in. But I am very hopeful. There is talk in town about how important the tournament is for both business and business in Piteå. The Tourist Association estimates that the people who come here during the tournament weekend will have a turnover of 60-70 million. It contributes to your interest in contributing, says Christer Norberg, Chairman of the Board of PSG, when SVT Sport reaches him.

Piteå IF is hit hard

PSG must withdraw SEK 1.5 million until about one year. Measures have already been taken and the Board has been forced to make the decision to terminate two persons and to lay off staff to cut the expenses.

- There is a lot of money to be made, but we will work with everything we have. We will go to our partners to get them to support us with the sponsorship money they promised us even though we can't run this summer. What we need to raise money for is rent and other expenses. In early March, registration fees start to come in.

The fact that the tournament is canceled also affects already financially hard-hit Piteå in damallsvenskan.

- It will be a major loss of revenue for us. By our measurements, it is a lot of money. It is about SEK 350,000 that we receive in dividends and then we are members of the association so it is also a loss of profit. It drops some 100,000 there as well. It hits the whole town very hard. It is a fantastic folk party that we are missing out on, says the club's chairman Rikard Fahlman to SVT Sport.
