- When the announcement that the Olympics had been moved, it was quite expected. I think you are mentally minded that this is the only possible thing that can happen right now, says Magdalena Eriksson when SVT Sport meets the England pro at home in Enskede.

Magdalena Eriksson, with the captaincy, has led Chelsea to the league top in the Women's Superleague and English Cup title. She is expected to play a leading role in the women's national team in many championships for Sweden. With a successful World Cup in the back, the Olympic dream has now been turned.

- We had hoped to ride on the wave we had with the World Cup in France last summer and the World Cup bronze. I think we've all been aiming for a medal in another championship.

- I mainly suffer with the older players in the national team, who had looked forward to the Olympics. I don't know their plans, but this might have been the idea that it would be their last championship. And then to push it forward a year, then it gets tougher. For me, who is in the middle of my career, it may not affect as much. A World Cup bronze was huge. But I think we are all craving for something more, and have a great faith in the team we have, and can do something more too.

Won U19 gold with Sweden

For many years Fischer, Seger and Lindahl - now question marks for extended national team careers - lead when the Olympic dream is paused.

From the defense, Magdalena Eriksson shouldered the new generation. With gold for Sweden in the U19 European Championships for both 93's and 96-97's - the future looks bright.

- I definitely think we have a really good generation that is entering.

Where are you in that?

- I'm 93, after all, so what should you call me, middle-aged maybe? I've been around for a while, but I'm 26, so I have years left. Still, I feel like one of those established in the national team.

FIFA's message

Outside the plan - for Magdalena Eriksson - often the case on important issues. Last week - message from FIFA chairman Gianni Infantino. International football association Fifa's billionth investment in women's soccer - decided last fall - remains despite the corona crisis.

- The whole world economy is rocking, you can safely say. Then it always becomes that you connect to our situation. Women's football is on such a push now. It means very much that FIFA goes out and marks it. It feels good to know that the future of women's soccer will continue upwards.

European Championships moved

The European Championships in England 2021 - in Eriksson's other home country - have been moved to 2022. A consequence of the men's European Championships being canceled. UEFA had the opportunity on the table to play the women's and men's European Championships during the same summer.

- It was something I thought sounded rather exciting, and would have been cool to test, since it had never happened before. But since the Olympics will be moved to next summer, that is an impossibility I would say. We can't play two championships the same summer.

The coach's confidence

Emma Hayes, Chelsea's coach, weak for Magdalena Eriksson's leadership skills, has given her the tie. Hayes herself takes a big place in Chelsea's boardroom and she has prayed for the women's team to have organization, access and rights as an example in world football. The coach calls his team back in a couple of weeks.

- Now we have got a pretty clear message that we are aiming for mid-June. Getting started with the league game. They mirror the men's Premier League. So the middle of June is the goal. They want us back some time before because we will be quarantined for two weeks since we left.

The plan that lies at the Women's Superleague right now is to play all matches during the summer, and into August. Next season will start fairly quickly, after a small break.

- It's a situation we're not used to. We are used to three to four months between each season. Now you have to see this as a pre-season. A time where you can rest and heal your body.

- With the Olympics next year, there will be a year, where you may be running for a whole year.
