SVT Sport revealed last month that the game on training matches with teams from lower divisions increased avalanche in the spring, because in principle all sports were discontinued during the corona pandemic.

But just playing on teams from divisions under division 2, the Swedish Football Association wants to put a stop to.

- It is totally unacceptable! The fact that you offer that type of game object at all shows that the gaming industry does not take responsibility and is unable to regulate this in a sufficiently good way, the union's secretary general Håkan Sjöstrand told SVT Sport.

New chapter

And now they can get what they want. Today, the Gaming Inspectorate sent out an updated proposal with which rules will apply in the future. There is now a rule that can put a stop to games on teams from lower divisions.

In the new proposal there is a chapter 3, which is called: "Especially on the restriction and prohibition of betting on football".

Prohibition of games on training matches

This chapter states, among other things, that betting may only be offered at "the four highest series levels in the Swedish series system", "international matches at club level where the team is part of one of the four highest series levels in each country", and that bans are prohibited on training matches. That means playing on junior and youth matches is also prohibited.

The Sports Association's chairman Björn Eriksson is pleased with the proposal.

- It is very gratifying that the Gaming Inspectorate has listened to the sport and understood that the risks of match fixing are much greater in lower divisions. That the Gaming Inspectorate starts with football and that it can be expanded with other sports is an excellent way of working to get high accuracy in the regulations, he says in a press release.

Referral to May 6

However, there is still no suggestion for betting on corners, throw-ins and the like that the Swedish Football Association wants a stop for.

The proposals are due for referral until May 6. The new rules can take effect after the summer.
