The turbulence in the Swedish ice hockey association started as early as last fall when the women's crowns went on strike. And earlier this month, SVT Sport revealed that the hockey association is being accused of gender-discriminatory pay.

SVT has previously reported that a police investigation is ongoing with the union. The notification was made by union representative Anders Feltenmark, who was dismissed on March 31 with reference to a lack of work. After turbulent weeks, the union announced today that Tommy Boustedt is leaving the post of Secretary-General.

- There have been too many negative headlines for some time. It was a correct decision. The board probably realized that it was not long, I think it is their decision, says SVT Sports expert Mikael Renberg.

How has it become like this?

- As Secretary General, Tommy Boustedt has worked on issues other than in his previous role. There he has not been as good, because as a development manager he was fantastic.

How are Tommy Boustedt doing now, do you think?

- I do not know how he is doing today, but he is probably not completely satisfied. I think he had wanted to stay and possibly he thought it was too much lately with the writing.

The most important leadership role

How is the union doing?

- Not good at the moment. Now you have to start over and try to find someone who is good at hockey, but also find someone who knows the administrative. To some extent, someone needs to be able to hockey but there are an awful lot of other roles that a replacement must be able to. The leadership role is the most important.

Mikael Renberg believes that the Swedish ice hockey association chairman Anders Larsson has a large part in the turbulence that has been the last few weeks.

- He has great responsibility and he has been on Tommy Boustedt's side. Anders Larsson is verbal, calm and nice in what he says. But this decision would have been taken earlier and Larsson has a responsibility there.

Who has the biggest responsibility in this, Anders Larsson or Tommy Boustedt?

- The Board has a responsibility for the business to function. If you take the women's hockey, the union failed significantly. That they did not look better and support the girls who were obviously dissatisfied with how they were treated. If the business does not work, the board is responsible.
