The former member of the famous "magic square" of the French team, Alain Giresse was the exceptional guest of Lionel Rosso on Saturday on Europe 1 Sport. The opportunity for "Gigi" to return to football news and decide whether or not to stop La Ligue 1. For him, it is to take a risk with the physical integrity of players who have not , for the time being, the necessary physical preparation.

INTERVIEW

He is no longer in charge of any club or selection, but Alain Giresse, 67, keeps a keen eye on the news of French and world football. "Gigi" is like all French women and all French people, confined to his home, "a necessary measure, we realize that it is necessary to face this cataclysm", analyzes the ex-midfielder of the Blues. "Like what, we are not much in relation to this epidemic. It is difficult because everything stops, here it is, you have to take your pain in patience", he breathes on Europe 1.

"Between May 10 and 11, this is it, will it be like before?"

Ligue 1 has also been stopped since March 13. And to the question of whether to resume, Alain Giresse expressed some doubts, especially on the physical shape of the players. "It is not by doing an exercise bike that they can maintain their physical condition. It is a stop for almost two months without doing anything. We will put players on the field. We will fill up" , he fears.

Faced with a sequence as unprecedented as this one, Alain Giresse has trouble seeing an exit from confinement on May 11 as announced by the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron: "Frankly, there is one element that prevails, it is health, the health aspect is that control. When the president announces: 'May 11, this is deconfinement' (...) On May 11, at that time, the virus will take fright and leave France and Europe? "quips the former Olympique de Marseille player. "When we see the damage it causes, how from May 10 to May 11, that's it it will be like before?"

Giresse in favor of a season with 48 games

Alain Giresse then proposed to couple the 2019/2020 season with the 2020/2021 season, i.e. a championship with 48 matches. "A lot of things are going to be shaken up and whoever says I have the ideal solution does not exist," says the Girondin. "The stop of the championship? That wouldn't shock me either, but there are also the economic data of a fixed classification, the TV rights, etc., which will intervene. The clubs will be in difficulty in the face of this", he concludes.
