Barcelona's first-class football club announced changes to the board after six resignations last week to protest the way the club is run.

Two out of four vice-presidents, Emily Rosewood and Enrique Tompas, among the resigned, resigned in a fans' speech released by the Spanish media last Friday.

The four directors, Silvio Elias, Josep Pont, Jordi Calsamilia and Maria Teixidore, also resigned.

The resigners criticized the club’s handling of a scandal related to social media, and expressed doubts about the ability of the current board of directors to face the repercussions of the Corona virus pandemic crisis, due to which the club’s revenues have decreased greatly and led to a 70 percent reduction in player wages.

Barcelona said that the board of directors approved the appointment of Jordi Moch and Pau Villanova and Oriole Thomas as vice-presidents in various departments alongside Marta Plana as general secretary of the council and David Belfer as treasurer.

"Javier Purdas will be the manager responsible for the first football team, while Xavier Villaguana will take charge of the second team in Barcelona and the youth and women's soccer teams," Barcelona said in a statement.

The club added that it would file a lawsuit against the resigned vice president Roussud for "seriously damaging the image of the institution."

Barcelona also confirmed that Joan Blade, who is in charge of basketball teams, would take over the club’s oversight and transparency committee.

Resigning officials asked Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeo to call early presidential elections and expressed "dissatisfaction" over the club's use of a third party (the A3 Ventures) earlier this year to monitor what social media is reporting on Barcelona.

Bartomeo has denied accusations that the company launched social media accounts to offend any future presidential candidates and current and former players of the team, but he acknowledged the club’s contract with this institution, which in turn denied any wrongdoing.
