For five years now Jacob Wester spends his winters in Chamonix. He left the sloop style tour in 2013 to engage in free skiing instead.
- I've chosen it to avoid traveling so much. For personal reasons. But it is clear that I do not like to have 30 flights a year that I had on the sloop style tour, says Wester.
He is aware that his passion is "not the most climate friendly".
- It always becomes a bit hypocritical to try to take a stand for the climate and at the same time go helicopter skiing somewhere, he says.
