The postponement of the Olympic Games has had a ripple effect on the national team basketball. Unlike soccer, where the age limit prevents the tournament from shadowing the Euro Cups and the World Cups, in basketball the Games are the great reference. So FIBA has redone the schedule for the next two summers. The most important change affects the next men's Eurobasket, which will go to 2022.

The new date of the Olympic Games (between July 23 and August 8, 2021) left just four weeks of margin with the Eurobasket of 2021, so FIBA has preferred to move it. The next men's European, which will be organized between Germany, the Czech Republic, Georgia and Italy , and the FIBA AmeriCup will be held between September 1 and 18, 2022.

The change of dates will not affect the classification phase for the moment. In the absence of knowing how much professional sports can be resumed, the next two FIBA windows are still scheduled for November 2020 and February 2021.

On the other hand, the women's Eurobasket is maintained, which Spain will co-organize with France. The Spanish team will defend continental gold between June 17 and 27, four weeks before the Tokyo Games. Valencia and Lyon will host the first phase and the quarterfinals, and Paris will host the fight for the medals.
