Algeria postponed the Mediterranean Games, which were scheduled for the summer of 2021 in Oran, to 2022, due to the new Corona virus and its coincidence with the new history of the Olympic Games, Teddy Minister Khaled Ali Khaldi announced Tuesday.

"The Algerian government, together with the International Mediterranean Games Committee, made a joint decision to postpone the Mediterranean Games in Oran (northwest) for a year, which will take place in 2022 at the request of the International Mediterranean Games," Khaldi told APS.

He added, "The justification for postponing the games lies mainly in the joint eagerness to readjust its organizing period compared to the Olympic calendar, as well as maintaining the health of athletes and ensuring optimal preparation for this important sporting date."

The scheduled date for the 19th edition of the Mediterranean Games was from 25 June to 5 July 2021, with the participation of 26 countries.

The new Corona virus caused chaos in the calendar of sporting events, and almost complete paralysis in global sport.

The organizers of the Summer Olympics, scheduled for this year in Tokyo, have postponed it until the period between July 23 and August 8, 2021.

Algeria announced that 584 confirmed cases of the new Corona virus had been recorded, including 35 deaths, according to the Ministry of Health, and that all sporting activities had been canceled until further notice.
