Atlético de Madrid reported on Saturday the death of the 14-year-old child player Christian Minchola, for whom the Atletico team declared a day of mourning in their honor and that of other athletes who died in recent weeks.

This young player, who did not die from coronavirus , has been playing in the Red and White youth academy since the 2013-14 season and has passed through the Benjamin, Alevín and Child categories in six seasons.

"In recent days, people very close to me have died, some due to coronaviruses and others due to other diseases, and the feeling of not being able to say goodbye to them as they deserve, as well as, in the case of Christian, the feeling of injustice as great, they leave your heart broken, "said the CEO of Atlético, Miguel Ángel Gil Marín , through the club's website.

"Christian was only 14 years old. From here a very strong kiss for all his family and for all those of the great athletic family who are suffering similar situations", adds Gil Marín.

The president of the club, Enrique Cerezo, assured that they are "dismayed" and "deeply" regret their loss. "Atlético de Madrid and the entire athletic family will be next to Christian's family and friends in these moments of immense pain," he added.

The red and white flag that the club has installed next to the Wanda Metropolitano stadium will fly at half-mast in honor of the young footballer and the rest of the rojiblancos fans who have died in recent weeks.
