The Spanish football club, Real Madrid, announced today, Thursday, in cooperation with the country's Supreme Sports Council, that its Santiago Bernabeu stadium will turn into a temporary headquarters for storing and distributing strategic health equipment as part of Spain's fight against the Corona virus.

Spain comes second after Italy in the number of deaths due to the virus, as the total number of deaths due to the epidemic in the country rose to more than 4000, and the total number of cases reached more than 56 thousand.

It is expected that the emergency measures, which include imposing public quarantine, that is, obliging the residents to stay in their homes except for going out to buy basic supplies of food, medicine or work, will be extended for another 15 days early next week.

"Thanks to the close cooperation between these two entities, the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium will be a eligible place to store donations from health supplies destined for the fight against the pandemic," Real Madrid said in a statement.

"All equipment will be delivered to the Spanish health authorities so that they can be used under the supervision of the government in the optimum and most effective way during the health emergency in the country, and the club will provide sports-related institutions and companies with the possibility of sending financial or in-kind donations requested by the Ministry of Health."
