Just like so many other athletes, Louise Hansson's existence has been turned upside down.

She would defend two titles at the US College Championships, NCAA, last weekend, she would stay in Los Angeles and train for the Olympics and finally chase medals in Tokyo in July.

- Everything that I had planned for the next five months has disappeared. It is clear that I am not happy, but given the situation in the world, it was the right decision, says last year's World Cup seven at 100 meters butterfly about the decision to postpone the Olympics next year.

nightmare Situation

She says that from the parents' home outside Helsingborg where also little sister Sophie, the 21-year-old breaststroke, is there. She left home from her college in North Carolina the days before Louise.

- It was mainly mom and dad who wanted us home. It's so unclear what is happening and you could have been sitting in your apartment for one, two or three months, says Louise Hansson, who has six weeks of school work remotely before graduating from the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles.

US President Donald Trump has halted flights between the US and Europe and Louise Hansson managed with scarce and scarce home.

- I came up with the last plane pretty much. I sat at the airport in New York and basically all planes to London except mine were canceled, she says.

"All food is over"

The Corona crisis in the US is a few weeks after it in Europe and she describes a fear in Los Angeles during her last days there.

- It was a little mixed. At first there was some talk that it was not so dangerous, but at the same time all the food was out of the shops and there was nothing to buy. It was the same as here with people hoarding toilet paper.

- You noticed that people were preparing, I stood in line for an hour just to get into a grocery store. So people were scared. There are many people who do not have health insurance over there, she says.

In the United States, 65,000 coronary cases were confirmed on Wednesday and more than 940 have died. California is one of the worst hit states. Just a few hours after Louise Hansson left Los Angeles, the university's swimming pool was closed, where she trained under legendary swim coach Dave Salo.

Moves to England

Now she is training in Helsingborg with her sister and is trying to find new goals. The European Championships in Budapest - which is tentatively moved to August - may be one.

- I try to take one day at a time. You can focus on the European Championships, and the Olympics will happen and is the big goal.

Louise Hansson is already Olympic-ready. She debuted in the national team early and has participated in and swam home both European gold and World Cup silver in team races. Individually she has lifted during her four years in the USA and seventh place in the World Cup last year was her best individual championship result.

She will probably continue her Olympic Games in England at Loughborough University from this fall. She plans to continue to pursue a master's degree in business administration with a focus on marketing and entrepreneurship.

- They have a great training center there that is in combination with the school, so it is similar to the arrangement that I have run now, she says.
