According to the newspaper L'Equipe, the former coach of the French football team (1976-1984) Michel Hidalgo died on Thursday March 26 in Marseille. He had just celebrated his 87th birthday. "According to one of his relatives, his death was not linked to the coronavirus, but to a disease which had weakened him greatly in recent years," the newspaper said.

He was known as the coach of the European champion team in 1984, the first major trophy in French football, and of "Seville 82", this semi-final of World Cup legend lost on penalties against Germany.
