In principle, it is excluded that the highest Swedish football series will start as intended in early April, given the spread of the corona virus. The government's ban on gatherings with more than 500 participants is also expected to remain next month, state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell told Aftonbladet on Sunday.

Since the clubs do not want to play without an audience, a delayed series start seems to be closer at hand, if it is at all possible to play any football this season.

Meeting on Tuesday

The club's interest organization Elite Football Ladies (EFD) sent out a question battery to the associations last week and asked for their opinion on the situation. The EFD has also called for a board meeting on Tuesday to decide how to proceed.

"There, we will make more decisions on different issues," said EFD Secretary-General Tomas Hoszek.

If the damsel Swan is postponed - it should have started on April 3 - unlike the men's Swan, there is no European Championship in June to take into account. However, there is an Olympic Games in Tokyo, where Sweden has qualified and where the women's tournament will be decided July 22 - August 7.

From Japan, it still sounds like the Olympics will be arranged, but the prevailing situation with the corona virus means that more and more people are doubting it. The Olympics or not can be decisive for how the damall Swede is played, if it is played, says Tomas Hoszek.

"Everyone must be helped"

- If it becomes an Olympics, we end up in a position where we have to get the series together, depending on when it can start at all, on much fewer dates, which means weekly matches and other things that strain the clubs. If the Olympics do not get lost, it opens up the opportunity to play a more straight series.

Gothenburg, one of the tipped top teams ahead of the season, thinks that there is too much speculation right now. Football has to wait, says club chairman Peter Bronsman.

- It doesn't matter what we plan if we don't get the virus in order. If everyone is helped in society then the virus will ebb. But then it is important that everyone is helped, and then maybe you should not play matches or think about it at all, says Bronsman.

- And unless the Olympics get rid of, there is a reason for that. Then maybe you haven't got the virus in order and then you can't play football either.
