The handball ladies' European Championship qualifier against the Czech Republic, which would have been played on March 25 and 29, was postponed to June due to the corona virus. But the Olympic qualification in Spain next weekend will be decided as planned.

- It is the same risk of spreading infection in Spain and if the risk is so great then the Olympic qualification should not be played either, says Sabina Jacobsen to SVT Sport.

"Not much information"

Jacobsen, who had not planned to play in the European Championship qualification, is not directly affected by the decision to postpone the matches, but she thinks it is strange that the International Handball Federation has not made the same decision as the European.

- We haven't received much information, but I know that several countries want to cancel because the European qualification is not played. It is a decision higher up and we can do nothing more than try to influence, says Jacobsen.

"Lack of respect"

The European Handball Players Union (EHPU) is of the same opinion as Jacobsen, and states in a statement on Facebook that they want the International Handball Association to move the qualifying game.

“The EHPU finds the situation worrying, and nothing is more important than the safety and health of players, coaches, staff and the entire community. In addition, the IHF's (international handball association's) lack of respect for the situation makes the players get trapped between the clubs and the national team, which is not fair, "they write.
