Frida Karlsson's first World Cup victory came after a powerful pick-up in Holmenkollen's three-mile. Although she was halfway over the minute Therese Johaug, she caught on - much thanks to the tactical choice to change skis after 18.4 km.
After the change of skiing, Karlsson and Ebba Andersson started to pull away from the rest of the field - taking in more and more on leading Johaug.
- We talked a lot and switched, and then we never heard any times back and then we understood that it was the focus that was ahead. It was a pretty nice feeling.
What did you think when you saw Johaug?
- Then you put on a real hunting position. I felt the horns start to grow more and more the closer I got. I really felt I had the upper hand, both mentally and I saw that she had a little worse skiing at the end.
When you walked on the last hill, what were you thinking?
- I got so excited when I caught up with her, thinking "what should I do now?" and then I walked on the last hill. Then I thought "no, why am I going around?" I can wait for the rally! ”. Then I chose to lie down but left before the rally anyway. I felt that I was stronger on the rally, it was a wonderful feeling.
Johaug regrets the tactic: "I was stupid"
