US President Donald Trump is a dedicated golfer, and now he shows it by giving America's top civilian award to two of the sport's greatest - Annika Sörenstam and Gary Player. The White House announced this Friday.

“This is America's highest civilian award and definitely the most distinguished award I have ever received. My reaction was a wave of emotions. Definitely goose bumps. Then gratitude, pride and humility, ”Sörenstam writes in a statement on the LPGA tour's website, and continues:

"I am immensely grateful to President Trump for this honor and all that it represents for me, my family, the LPGA tour and the Annika Foundation."

Woods also received the medal

The Swede, who has previously played with Trump on some of his own courses, will receive his medal on March 23. Together with Player, she joins the quartet Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Charlie Sifford and Tiger Woods as the only golfers to receive the Freedom Medal.

“I am proud to be the first LPGA player and the first female athlete to be an assimilated US citizen to receive this award. It's an overwhelming feeling, ”writes Sörenstam.
