Magdalena Eriksson was named new team captain in Chelsea in September. On Saturday night, the 26-year-old received the honor of lifting the English league cup along with his club team after the London rival Arsenal were defeated in the final at the City Ground in Nottingham.
English teammate Bethany England became Chelsea's big cup hero with two goals in the 2-1 victory.
First, England made 1-0 already after nine minutes of play and then she decided with a goal on extra time in the second half, after Arsenal acknowledged in the 85th by Leah Williamson.
"An incredible effort from the girls," says Bethany England according to the BBC.
Chelsea, who were knocked out in the semi-finals last season in the tournament against prospective Manchester City champions, were thus rewarded. However, Arsenal, the English League Cup champion 2018, went on his second straight final loss after losing last year after being penalized against City.
Magdalena Eriksson and Jonna Andersson, who both started for Chelsea in the final victory, are now traveling to Portugal to represent the national team in the Algarve Cup. Sweden's first match is against Germany on Wednesday.
