Max Verstappen rode the fastest time on Wednesday during the afternoon session of the fourth Formula 1 test day in Barcelona. The 22-year-old Dutchman scored the second time overall and came to 84 rounds.
The kilometers from Verstappen were welcome for Red Bull, because the top team experienced problems in the morning. Alexander Albon then stayed indoors for a long time due to a technical fault, although he eventually came to 29 laps and the fourth fastest time (1.17.550).
With more than half an hour left, Verstappen threw gas on fresh medium tires - he rode that compound for the second time this winter - and that earned him a lap time of 1,117,347.
With his fastest time this winter, he was only slower than Robert Kubica (Alfa Romeo), who had clocked 1.16.942 in the morning. The test day ended with a red flag, when Verstappen spinned with a few minutes to go.
Of the drivers who only appeared on the track in the afternoon, Valtteri Bottas from Mercedes was the most productive with 88 laps. Verstappen and Sergio Pérez (Racing Point) came closest with a number of 84.
Verstappen comes into action on Thursday in the morning on the fifth test day. In the afternoon he is replaced by team-mate Albon. The Red Bull drivers also alternate on Friday, the final day. The first Grand Prix is in Australia on 15 March.
