Simon Biles is outraged. Scandalized by the proposal of the way the American Gymnastics Federation wants to close the dramatic file Larry Nassar, the former doctor of USA Gymnastics sentenced to life imprisonment for rape and sexual assault on several hundred athletes from 1988 to 2015.

"I wish I could say what I think ... but I will start with the fact that I cannot believe it," commented on Twitter the quadruple Olympic champion, who is among the victims, on Tuesday, following revelations from several media. The Orange County Register and ESPN daily got their hands on a disclosure statement filed with the US Southern Indiana District bankruptcy court this weekend detailing the Federation's plan.

The latter offers a system of staggered compensation, depending on the frequency and context of the sexual abuse committed by Nassar. This amounts to establishing a hierarchy between the victims. In summary, elite gymnasts assaulted at the Olympic Games, world championships, American team training camps or other national team events would be entitled to the maximum compensation, set at 1.25 million dollars (1.15 million euros).

At the bottom of the scale, gymnasts abused in places not belonging to USA Gymnastics would be paid 174,401 dollars (160,190 euros) and people who had suffered "oblique actions" would receive only 82,550 dollars (75,820 euros).

Nassar "protectors" escape justice

This compensation plan is part of a global offer of 215 million dollars (194 million euros) made in January, which the lawyer for more than 180 victims had described as "inadmissible". John Manly added on Saturday to the columns of the Orange County Register that "this offer would also prevent any further action against officials of the American Olympic and Paralympic Committee".

In other words, "all the many protectors of Nassar, including the former boss of the gymnastics federation Steve Penny and the former president of the USOPC Scott Blackmun, would completely escape justice and should not pay anything", notes the lawyer.

USAG just offered a settlement that releases the USOPC, Steve Penny and the Karolyis from all liability and refuses ro address the extent to which USAG officials were aware of or concealed the predatory behavior of Nassar and others, including coaches.

John Manly concludes, cynical: “Let parents who plan to place their child in a gym run by USA Gymnastics know this. The court says that if a recognized pedophile is in this gymnasium and he rapes your child, then your child is worth $ 82,000. It is the most disgusting, reprehensible and vile consideration of children that can be. "
