Tokyo Marathon next year participation fee Runners residing in China are also collected Exemption policy change February 20 16:34

The Tokyo Marathon, which has withdrawn all regular runners due to the new coronavirus, will host runners residing in China in the same way as runners living in Japan who have been exempt from participating in next year's competition. A fee has been collected.

The Tokyo Marathon, which will be held in Tokyo on the 1st of next month, will have a total of 38,000 people participating in the Full Marathon and 10km sections. The Marathon Foundation has announced on 17th this month that it will withdraw all public runners and take part in next year's competition instead.

Prior to this, the Foundation had requested runners residing in the increasingly infected China to refrain from participating, while exempting them from participating in next year's tournament. With the cancellation of the participation, on the 20th, the fee was changed to the same as for runners living in Japan.

The Foundation has commented, "I am deeply sorry that we have changed our previous announcement."

On the other hand, SNS and others have stated that "this participant's participation fee should be refunded", but the Foundation has said that the majority of the operating expenses of the Tokyo Marathon of about 2 billion yen has already been paid at the preparation stage. It indicates a policy not to refund the participation fee based on the participation rules.
