Racist scandal in the Portuguese league - Moussa Marega got chairs thrown at him

The Portuguese league suffered a racist scandal yesterday. In the end, Porto's Moussa Marega had enough. After hearing aplenty - and chairs thrown at him - he finally got enough and left the pitch. "You are a shame," he writes on Instagram.

It was when Maregas FC Porto met Vitoria Guimarães yesterday that it became chaotic.

Maregas, who comes from Mali, made 2-1 a quarter into the second half. Then it traced out. First came a lot of acoustic noise from the home crowd, and when he ran out onto the sideline a lot of chairs were thrown at him.

Raging on Instagram

Maregas was then upset and showed his middle fingers to the crowd before trying to leave the pitch. However, his teammates tried to calm him down and persuade him to continue playing, but in the end they were forced to give up and Marega was replaced.

After the match, Marega posted an upset post on Instagram:

“To the idiots who come to the stadium to scream racist things: Shit to hell! Also, I thank the judges for not defending me, and for giving me a yellow card for defending my skin color. I hope I never see you again on the football field. You're a shame! "

"A family"

Marega is defended by Porto coach Sérgio Conceição.

- We are upset about what happened. Moussa was insulted right from the warm-up, he said.

- We are a family. One's nationality, skin color or height does not matter. We are humans. We deserve respect and what happened was irresponsible.

Vitoria Guimarães has published a statement on the club's website condemning what happened.

"We will determine what happened during the match that was played at Estádio D. Afonso Henriques and will act vigorously and cooperate with the legal bodies," they write.
