Siem de Jong is very likely to trade Ajax for an American adventure. According to De Telegraaf , the midfielder is about to make a transfer to FC Cincinnati, the club in Major League Soccer (MLS) where Ron Jans is the trainer.
The newspaper writes Monday that 31-year-old De Jong is traveling to the United States this week to get a medical examination and sign a contract. FC Cincinnati finally takes over.
De Jong, who has an expiring contract, sporadically arrives at Ajax under trainer Erik ten Hag. The midfielder returned to the Johan Cruijff ArenA in the summer of 2017 after he already played there between 2007 and 2014.
De Jong experienced four championships in his first period as an Ajax player. In the 2010/2011 champion match against FC Twente (3-1), he helped the club win the coveted thirtieth national title in history.
The six-time international of the Dutch national team then played for Newcastle United and PSV. In the 2018/2019 season he was rented out by Ajax to Sydney FC.
Incidentally, the future of Jans in Cincinnati is somewhat unclear. The former coach of FC Groningen, sc Heerenveen and PEC Zwolle, among others, got discredited on Friday after singing along with a rap song in which the word nigger appears. An investigation is ongoing.
