The organizing committee of the Tokyo Olympics 2020 announced Thursday that the outbreak of the new Corona virus in China will not affect the dates of the Olympic Games (2020 Olympics) scheduled for this year.

"We would like to reiterate that we are not thinking of canceling and postponing the (Olympic) Games in Tokyo because of the Corona virus," said Yoshiro Mori, head of the Olympic Organizing Committee.

"We are coordinating with the government and dealing (with the situation) calmly," added Mori - at the start of a meeting with members of the International Olympic Committee and the Tokyo city government.

John Coates, president of the International Olympic Committee's coordinating committee, said the Coruna virus is an "unexpected problem", and the Olympics authorities are showing that he is taking the necessary precautions for all athletes and visitors to Japan.

The Japanese government and Tokyo city authorities are also considering taking measures during the two-day meeting in the Japanese capital.

The organizing committee and the International Olympic Committee are also discussing the costs of transporting marathons and walking from Tokyo to Sapporo on the island of Hokkaido in northern Japan, amid growing fears of high temperatures in the capital.

It is noteworthy that the CEO of the Tokyo Olympics, Toshiro Moto, expressed his concern last week about the impact of the Corona virus on the games that will be held from July 24 to August 9 next.

In China, many sporting events have been canceled, postponed or transferred since the beginning of the Coruna outbreak at the end of last December.
