A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of murder, following the Kolari act in Finnish Lapland on Sunday morning. The man is known by the police since before, but was unknown to Kaisa Sali, writes Finnish Yle.

In interrogation with the police, Sali said that she had only exchanged a few words with the man before he stabbed her.

- This has not been about a quarrel. Their conversation began at the initiative of the cutter, says Crime Commissioner Kirsi Huhtamäki to Yle.

Leave off last fall

38-year-old Sali, formerly Lehtonen, who ended her active career last fall, was allowed to leave the hospital on Wednesday, three days after the attack. On Sunday, she wrote about the incident herself on Instagram, describing how she was attacked in her own garden by a stranger.

“The big knife cut a hole from the upper part of my back to my chest. But I was fortunate that no vital organs were broken, ”Kaisa Sali writes alongside a picture of herself from the hospital in Rovaniemi.

Kaisa Sali is one of Finland's foremost triathletes of all time. She took the World Cup silver in 2014 and the World Cup bronze in 2015. She has also become fifth in Ironman on two occasions, 2016 and 2017.
