14-seeded Sofia Kenin scrambled to the final in the Australian Open as she knocked out world set and home favorite Ashleigh Barty in the semi-finals.

Kenin won with 7-6, 7-5 and is thus in the first grand slam of his life.

-I am speechless, I honestly can't believe it. I've been dreaming about this since I was five, says a shocked Kenin in the victory interview.

The match was played in 38-degree heat and gassing sun. Barty looked taken out of the situation and made several simple mistakes while Kenin showed the same safe play as before in the tournament.

-I worked so hard to get here and I really had to fight out there. There is a reason why she (Barty) is number one in the world, says Kenin.

Even Simona Halep knocked out

In the final awaits Spanish Garbiñe Muguruza, who knocked out fourth-seeded Simona Halep from Romania with 7-6, 7-5.

The first set between Muguruza and Halep became incredibly smooth and went to tiebreak. There, players took turns to save set balls before Mururuza could finally set the point for the set at 10–8 in tiebreak.

The Spanish started the second set best, served phenomenally and the frustration became clear with Halep who, after losing the first game, broke her racket.

"One match left"

But Halep lit it. She took the second game and then broke Muguruza's serve to 2-1. Halep looked to have switched grip when the game swung again. Muguruza fought back and took home the second set with 7-5.

"I am very tagged in the finals, it's a long way to go but now I have a match left," Muguruza says with a smile.

Muguruza, the 2017 World Cup, had a difficult year in 2019 and entered the Australian Open unseeded. But during the tournament in Melbourne, she has shown that she is still counting on the big tennis scene. On the way to the semi-finals, Muguruza knocked out, among others, fifth-seeded Ukrainian Elina Svitolina and ninth-seeded Dutchman Kiki Bertens before taking the impressive victory against Halep.
