Motorcyclist Edwin Straver Dies After Accident at Dakar


Dutch motorcycle racer Edwin Straver died as a result of injuries sustained in an accident at the 11th stage of the Dakar rally-raid in Saudi Arabia.

According to Motorsport, with reference to the official representatives of the 48-year-old athlete, he died while in the hospital in the presence of his relatives.

Straver, who spoke for the third time at the Dakar, had an accident in the first half of the special stage. For about ten minutes he had no heartbeat before the doctors resuscitated him. Then the rider was taken to a hospital in Riyadh in critical condition, where he was diagnosed with a fracture in the upper part of the cervical spine. He was later taken to the Netherlands, where it was confirmed that his brain was too seriously damaged, and after the consent of the family, the doctors disconnected him from the artificial respiration apparatus.

Earlier it was reported that the Portuguese motorcycle racer Gonçalves died during the Dakar rally.
