Dafne Schippers skips the entire indoor season. The two-time 200-meter world champion needs more time to train and get in shape and therefore does not run her first competitions until the spring.
"This training camp in South Africa had good things, but also some disappointments," writes Schippers on Friday, the day before she returns to the Netherlands, on Instagram. "I still have to take some steps and because I want to be in top form first, I am not starting the indoor season."
The 27-year-old Schippers already announced at the end of last year that she would skip the World Indoor Championships in March in Nanjing, China, because the tournament does not fit in her run-up to the Tokyo Olympics next summer. But now she reports that indoor will not take action at all. She had already planned indoor competitions in Düsseldorf and Berlin in February.
"Rest assured I will be ready in time for the outdoor season," continues Schippers. "I just need some time to really be able to pop."
