The crash in Kitzbühel 1981 does not go to history as the fastest, but probably one of the most brutal. Of a total of 60 riders, 17 were driving out - many very brutal.

Ingemar Stenmark had not run very many downhill races in his career. Already in 1975, in an interview with SVT Sport, he told how he how downhill made him scared.

- It's a little nasty sometimes because things go fast, says Stenmark.

But despite this, Stenmark was on the starting line. Below him he had the infamous Hahnenkammrennen. But why was he even there?

What he didn't know was that this day, this ride, would be one of the most dramatic of his career.
