The legalization process for MMA in France is advancing, and it will be done under the aegis of the French Boxing Federation, Sports Minister Roxana Maracineanu announced on Tuesday.
"After having collected and used the various information from (the) investigation phase, the Minister of Sports plans to grant by ministerial decree the delegation of the discipline of MMA to the French boxing federation," said the Minister of Sports. In June 2019, the ministry launched a call for expressions of interest and six federations were accepted into the race: in addition to boxing, there were karate, kickboxing-muay-Thai, wrestling, French savate-boxing and sports federation and gymnastics of work (FSGT).
One-year supervision before a three-year “mandate”
As required by the sports code, the minister asked for the advisory opinion of the French Olympic Committee (Cnosf), which will be issued in the coming weeks, the ministry said. After this opinion, "the Minister of Sports will announce the delegated federation chosen to host the MMA for a period of one year" then a "new delegation campaign will start at the end of 2020 after the (Olympic) Games in Tokyo for the period 2021-2024 ", Indicates the ministry.
