In a rare case of its kind around the world, the Omarli Sport football team includes player Shukri Yaghter, 57, and his grandson, Ismail Demirtaş, 18.

The team is competing in the second-tier amateur league in the southeastern state of Mardin, under the leadership of Captain Shukry.

Grandfather started his football career by joining the neighborhood team in 1972, before moving to the amateur level, as he dressed as a team in nearly 38 years.

Shukri is a father of six and has two grandchildren, and he is the club president and captain of the football team at the same time.

In an interview with Anadolu Agency, Shoukry said that he could play a full match even though he is 57 years old, and that he is considering retiring when he is 61 years old.

The grandfather expressed his great happiness at the continuation of playing football with the youth, especially his grandson (the son of his daughter), who plays next to him in the same team, hoping that they will set an example for all young people.

For his part, the grandson plans to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather and continue playing football for many years.

He expressed his pride in his grandfather, and said, "(He) is a role model for me. I started (playing) football thanks to him. He is the leader of my team and my ideals at the same time."
